Setup |
- Have players from 3 or 4 lines with the coach in front,
facing the players.

Execution |
- On the coach’s command of “ready position”, the first
player in each row steps forward into a good, ready position
- After the first row of players are in the ready position,
the coach then says “fielding position” and the players move
forward about two steps and assume a good fielding position.
- After the coach or coaches check each player’s fielding
position, they should send them back to the end of their line.

Duration |
- This drill should be repeated until the coach has seen
each player’s fielding position 4 or 5 times.

Coaching Tips |
Things to Look For (Figure 1):
- Knees bent
- Back straight
- Back of the glove very close to the ground
- Feet shoulder width apart or wider
- Toes pointed straight ahead
- Pivot foot behind the striding foot. If you drew a line from the
toe of the pivot foot, it would pass behind the heel of the striding
foot
- Hands out in front
- Head down, eyes on the ball
- Good balance
